The Kern County Board of Trade is responsible for promoting and marketing Kern County. Founded in 1888 with the mission to "extol the virtues of Kern County to the East," the Board of Trade specifically administers:

Each of these areas has a significant economic influence in Kern County. Travel spending totaled $1.15 billion in Kern County in 2006, supporting nearly 14,000 jobs. Film and television production companies spend about $15 million a year while shooting at locations throughout the county.
The Board of Trade also serves as administrator of the county's Tourism Promotion Grant Program and conducts a number of special events to raise the profile and influence of Kern County, including the annual State of the County Dinner.
The department's official newsletter, "Kern County Quarterly", features information on tourism, filming and Board of Trade activities. It is produced four times annually with publication dates in February, May, August and November.
